The Ligonier cross country teams competed in the 49 team Altoona Mountain Lion Invitational on Saturday morning. The boys secured the 8th team place with an average time of 19:48. Sophomore Tommy Crary anchored the team, finishing in 17:33 and continues to chip his way toward the school record of 17:02. Jack Lynch and Jarett Krupper both had great races running the course in a little over 19 minutes. All 4 of the remaining boys, Elliot Peate, Evan Anderson, Brennan Saxfield and Jayce Shawley ran personal best times to round out the team scoring. For the girls, the Ram’s seniors took over with Rhian Sabo, Kiley Ross, Riley Riddell, and Alyssa Anderson racing to 4 of the top 5 spots on the team and leading LV to a strong 7th place finish. Sabo was 15th overall and was complemented by standout freshman Mia Herman who also medaled at 23rd in the 177 girl field. The team scoring was completed by Charlotte Raymond in 6th and freshman Sophia Pelesky in 7th. Ligonier entered 12 female runners including 4 freshmen who all managed to finish the 3.1 miles in an impressive 27 minutes or less. Second year coach Ben Raymond was thrilled by the turnaround. “We struggled a bit in our last races with some injuries, mental preparedness issues, and heat indexes over 100 degrees. Those amazingly all got fixed on the same day and the entire team performed at their best. I couldn’t be prouder and more excited for the rest of the season.” The Rams have only had one head-to-head meet this season, defeating West Mifflin two weeks ago. They will try to stay on the winning streak this week when they travel to Yough.
